Gobble Gobble!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We made it to the giving season and a time to be grateful for our lovedones, whether they are human, furry, finned, or feathered. Despite the chaos that 2020 has brought to each of us, we all have something to be thankful for. First and foremost I am thankful for my family, which includes my husband, daughter, dogs, and extended family and “fr-amily” near and far, our marine mammal clan, my amazing team at DPMMR of animal care, guest services, responders, veterinary staff, security, interns, and volunteers. We have all been through so much and yet made it all the way to Thanksgiving in 2020! Almost there!
Despite the many physical damages incurred from Tropical Storm Eta (I still cannot BELIEVE we had an almost hurricane in mid-November!!!!!), each of our dolphins remains happy and healthy. Our brave crew members, Art and Hunter, stayed overnight during the storm to ensure the dolphins were safe and that the rising tide did not surge up high enough for our dolphin family to become displaced from their lagoon. November has been filled with continued facility improvements at DPMMR. We have temporarily repaired our perimeter fence, a USDA requirement, as Eta decided to knock it down. We also repaired an extensive electrical issue caused by the storm. Additionally, we are repairing anything that is worn or damaged and gearing up for our busy season over the Holidays. We are incredibly grateful for each of you and your generous donations to help us with our repairs following the unexpected storm. Because of you, we raised over $12,000 which will fund much needed repairs!
In other exciting news, the DPMMR team looks forward to hanging out with each of you on Black Fridayfor a fun-filled day. We will be broadcasting live on Facebook from our lagoons all day, sharing updates from our dolphin family, as well as a VERY special discount/promo code on dolphin experiences for those who login. Additionally, we will highlight a special visitor who will be showcasing their talents as well.
In the meantime, I am excited for the possibilities 2021 will bring and holding on to the notion that it may be more normal? As Thanksgiving approaches, let us all try to remember what we are thankful for… family, friends, dolphins, and CARBS! Bring on the yummy holiday food! Until next month, take care of yourself and stay safe everyone.
Love and light to you and yours,
Nancy
